UM Art Department’s 26th annual Alumni Art Auction

By Kendall Murray

As part of Montevallo’s homecoming week, UM’s Art Department is hosting the 26th annual Alumni Art Auction in the Poole Gallery from Jan. 17 until Feb. 11.

The Alumni Art Auction invites art alumni to donate their work to the art department to be bid on in the auction. The artwork available varies between paintings, drawings, mixed media, sculptures and more.

The gallery opened on Jan. 17, and bids can be placed by anyone until 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the Poole Gallery at the Center for the Arts.

Dr. Jason Tanner Young, assistant UM art professor, hopes this event brings in a variety of participants.

“It’s open for students and anybody to come. Most of the bids have to be at least around $25 to $50,” said Young.

All profits from the event will go to the art department’s various programs and provide aid for art students.

Formerly, this event was held for one day in the Bloch Gallery on campus. Now, the three-week long installation and bidding will culminate in a “Poole Party” on Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. that students, faculty and alumni are welcome to attend.
