The University of Montevallo wrapped up its busiest week of the year this weekend as College Night concluded Saturday evening.
The century-old tradition is known for its spirited Purple and Gold rivalry, but the celebration extends beyond competition. Each year during homecoming, College Night leaders select a faculty or staff member to whom the College Night celebration is dedicated.
The dedication recognizes an individual who embodies a deep commitment to the university and demonstrates unwavering service to its students. The honor reflects the impact faculty and staff members have in shaping the Montevallo experience both inside and outside the classroom.
This year, the College Night dedication was presented to Montevallo Director of Student Life Jenny Bell for her continued leadership and dedication to the campus community.
Bell, who works closely with student organizations and major campus traditions, said “I was honestly just completely surprised. Like I never would have thought that I would get the College Night Dedication.”
Students and College Night leaders noted that Bell’s presence is felt across campus, particularly during large-scale events that require months of coordination and support.
“She truly dedicates her time to give back to Montevallo. There was no question as to who deserved this dedication.” Said student Bo Ferguson, who works as a Maven for the University.
While the recognition may have come as a shock to Bell, the award was also a great honor to the Director of Student Life.
“Personally, it’s nice to feel appreciated. It just means a lot to know that students think of me in that way.” Said Bell
As the final curtain closed Saturday night, the dedication served as a reminder that while the Purple and Gold rivalry takes center stage, it is the mentorship and commitment of leaders like Bell that help keep the tradition thriving year after year.
