On August 31, all four sororities as well as onlookers got ready for potential new members of each group to “run home,” a tradition of running to someone in a new member’s new chapter. Over 60 women on campus found a new home on campus within our Panhellenic sororities.
One of those new members was Rylee Keasler, junior at UM and a part of the new member class of Chi Omega. “Recruitment was wonderful! There was a few bumps in the road but the overall experience was worth it,” Keasler said. Joining a Greek organization as a junior is uncommon, but Keasler stated that she “loved the experience of running home.”
During last year’s formal recruitment, Montevallo had five sororities on campus, with Alpha Gamma Delta (AGD), Chi Omega (Chi O), Delta Gamma (DG), Phi Mu, and Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi). ADPi ended up closing their chapter at the end of last semester. “It broke all of Panhellic’s hearts to lose our sisters of ADPi and I know I really kept them close to my heart this recruitment season,” says current Phi Mu, Samantha Copner.
Recruitment is also mostly run by the Student Life Office, with Greek Life Coordinator Katie Andrews and her team of recruitment counselors, affectionately known as Pi Chis. “As an administrator, recruitment always amazes me because I always think we’re not as prepared as we could be, but the process just flows so naturally.” Andrews stated. “It’s an intense few days, though. I’m so proud of and thankful for everyone involved – active members, advisors, Pi Chis, PNMs, and all the other people who helped or even just attended Bid Day.”
Sorority recruitment doesn’t just end at the end of formal recruitment. All four organizations do Continuous Open Bidding, or “COB” events throughout the rest of the year. If you’re interested, follow all of the sororities on Instagram!
