A weekend guide to Montevallo

By Ashlee Hall

Moving away for college can be stressful, but choosing how to spend your free time in your new city does not have to be. Here are some of our recommendations on how to spend a weekend in Montevallo.

Start out your morning with your favorite coffee order at one of our three local coffee shops: Baba Java or C’s Coffee which are located off campus or Einstein’s Bagels on campus in Farmer Hall.

Your next stop should be something outdoors before the Alabama heat sets in. A walk in Orr Park to see the tree carvings or a hike through Shoal Creek Park to see the waterfall would be a scenic way to start your day outdoors.

After your time outside, you’re probably looking for air conditioning and a good meal. Lunch at Main Street Tavern would do just the trick of cooling you off and fueling you up before your afternoon of exploring your new town.

Your afternoon is where you could get creative. There are always different events around town throughout the year. You could catch a home soccer or baseball game, stroll through the Montevallo Art Walk or visit American Village.

Wind down your day of exploration with a sunset picnic at the University Lake and end it with a sweet treat from La Conchita Bakery.

Montevallo is a small town with plenty to do. From art walks to athletic games there is always a way to keep exploring your new town.
