Boy, the game is just beginning. The 2026-2027 College Night season will see a major changeup: the addition of a new side.
After the numerous controversies from last year’s season, the College Night committee has decided to add a third side for those who feel like they don’t belong in Purple or Gold’s circles. This decision came after former Gold Side leader, Madison Smith, cut ties with the side following the last-minute decision for the character Atticus to be killed off in “Cloaked in Red.”
The College Night committee was at first strongly against platforming Red Side, due to the side’s past implications of being anti-College Night, but after mass protests erupted from the death of Atticus, they realized the combined sides would have less people eligible than Gold Side.
In a suprising turn of events, Purple Side alum and crazy sock enthusiast Nethan Crew has decided to join Red Side as their co-leader. The senior psychology major became a devout stan of Atticus throughout the three times he watched Gold Side’s show and became radicalized after hearing of the wolf’s original fate.
“Atticus made me realize there’s a place for a lone wolf in this cruel world… and the normies of Gold took him away from us,” said an emotional Crew.
Smith, Crew and their 200 acolytes recently protested the Purple and Gold leader announcements by howling in perfect harmony.
“Rest now, Atticus. We have the watch, and I will see you in Valhalla,” said Smith.
The new side hopes to get rid of the anti-College Night stigma and become known as “fierce, territorial and competitive.” Their slogan is “Fear the Claw” and their mascot is usurpingly a wolf.
Smith, known for her killer voice, will be focusing on the production of “Sigma,” Red Side’s inaugural show.
“Sigma,” written by Robert C. James, is described as an odyssey of self-discovery in a time of conformity. The show follows Scout, a wolf that just left his den who finds out how different he is from other packs. At a dense 100 pages, it will be the first ever two-act show in College Night history.
While Smith and James don’t see eye to eye politically, it was the cathartic feeling she got from the script that made her choose it for Red Side’s first show.
“James may be an incel and a chud, but he understands loneliness like no other male,” admitted Smith.
Crew wants to make a name for himself in College Night athletics this year. His experience as athletics manager for Purple Side has given him the perspective to know what to look for in beating the competition.”
“I have faith in Red Side’s ability to dominate on any court, as I have assembled the best athletes that Montevallo has ever seen,” said Crew.
Red Side’s athletics captain will be first year student, LeBron James, who recently transferred from the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Kid from Akron, strive for greatness,” is all James said.
April 31 will see Red Side painting the bricks red with their mixer and full moon howl.
