On Nov. 7, the Recording Academy announced their nominees for the Grammys via a livestream event on the Grammy’s website and over YouTube. Topping the list of nominees, are Kendrick Lamar with nine nominations, Lady Gaga with seven, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, and Leon Thomas all with six a piece, and Clipse, Doechii, SZA, and Tyler the Creator boasting five.
Among the Record of the Year category includes Bad Bunny’s “DtMF,” Carpenter’s “Manchild,” Lamar and SZA’s “luther,” and Chappell Roan’s “The Subway.” Surprisingly, Taylor Swift does not grace any of the major categories. My personal pick for Record of the Year from the nominees is Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” but the previous mentions feel more stable bets.
For Album of the Year, there are many heavy hitters, such as “Let God Sort Em Out” by rap duo Clipse, “MUTT” by Leon Thomas, “Man’s Best Friend” by Sabrina Carpenter, and Tyler the Creator’s “CHROMAKOPIA.” Personally, I think out of these options that “CHROMAKOPIA” is my pick to win, but the voting odds probably favor Bad Bunny, Clipse, Sabrina Carpenter, or Kendrick Lamar’s releases.
This year will also be the first year for two new categories: Best Traditional Country Album and Best Album Cover. These host a new list of artists who don’t often get recognition, like Charley Crockett and Zach Top.
This year’s eligibility period includes releases between August 31, 2024 to Aug 30, 2025. The final voting will take place between December 12 and January 5, and the awards show will take place on Feb 1. It will be broadcasted live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
