As the new school year rolls in, the Student Government Association (SGA) hosts welcome week events to encourage new and returning students to engage and connect with each other. The event was held on Aug. 23 in Farmer.
The event started out as a tailgate with yard games like cornhole, Connect Four and Jenga. Students also had the option of hamburgers or hotdogs that were prepared by SGA. There were also meat alternative options for students. Music was played and students got to connect and have fun.
SGA President, Caleb Jernigan expressed the importance of Welcome Week events, especially for new students who are still trying to find their footing at Montevallo. “Our main goal is to make it where people want to be involved… I want them to get out and have fun at events like this.”
Karaoke took place at 6 p.m. Students danced and enjoyed themselves to the songs being played.
If you are looking to get involved, SGA is a great option but there are also over 99 organizations on campus, so there are many options for what suits you. Sign up for Senate is available as well as for Freshman Forum. If you are interested, you can apply on Falconlink.
