Montevallo Anime Club Returns

By William Deaver

With the start of the new semester comes, many new clubs for students to join. One of which is the Anime Club. After being inactive for 4 years, Junior Laurel Robb has revived the program with a healthy group of people meeting every week.

Every week, the club gets together to do everything from discussing what everyone’s watching to hosting watch parties for anime style movies.

With the rather lengthy inactive period the club went through, one could be curious as to why a student decided to start it back up. “For two weeks I went there and there was nobody there, like, ever. So, I finally emailed the SGA asking what was going on. They told me that they technically wasn’t a anime club,” said Robb.

From what Robb gathered, when the last host left the university the club fell into a weird spot of existing but never meeting. That’s when Robb decided to take up the mantle of club president and host the club’s meetings. “I found a lot of great success in it.
The club has a lot of members that have been here since the very first meeting. They went to that first meeting, and it stuck with them, but then we’ve had new people trying to join and come in. And that’s been nice,” Robb continued.

When asked about the club’s perspective on the value of anime as an artform, Robb said “I would say, yeah, it’s an art form. And, you know, even if it was seen as a little childish, I’m in the mindset of who cares. You enjoy what you enjoy.”

The Anime club meets every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm, in Harman Hall room 201. “If you like anime and want to talk about with a bunch of people who feel the same way, come to one of our meetings!” said Robb
