Inter-Fraternity Council Bid Day took place this past Friday in Humanities auditorium. Students gathered early to see what choices would be made by the new students.
Bid Day is an exciting day on both ends. The fraternities’ welcome home their new members and the new students are starting a new chapter of life surrounded by brothers. There are three fraternities, Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) and Alpha Kappa Lambda (AKL).
The week leading up to bid day the fraternities put on events like open house, football and various other events to connect and meet the new members so they have an idea what that brotherhood could offer them.
Bid Day is an event that is suspenseful but also the environment is supportive to the new members. They opened their bids outside specifying where they can go, as their names are called one by one onto the stage. The new member proceeds to pick up the hat of the home they want to go to. A baseball cap that says Phi Gamma Delta, a Viking helmet for ATO and a cap with the Greek letters for AKL.
After each one had picked their home, they were welcomed with hugs, cheers and brotherhood for their years to come at Montevallo. Going through recruitment is a great way to expand your circle, get involved and see what opportunities are here for you at Montevallo.
FIJI Recruitment Chair, Cameron Corbitt went through recruitment as a sophomore expressed “Brotherhood is so important here at Montevallo because the connections are meant to last a lifetime.” – “It has encouraged me to achieve excellence.”
Although it may seem difficult to get out there and see who you fit in with, it is worth trying FIJI New member Max Lopez Salgado stated, “It was nice to have the choice to attend any of the frat events, I felt seen and not just as another number for the frats.” As he continues his time in FIJI Salgado expressed “I hope to make lifelong friendships and memories for life with people who share common goals and ideas with me.”
AKL member Jake Manley stated, “Building connections is so much more important that I could’ve imagined, brotherhood has given me so many memories.”
Montevallo has so many opportunities and can offer up so many friendships. If you want more information on the Fraternities, you can visit the University of Montevallo website or visit their socials:
