SGA’s The Big Event 2022

Corrected on April 19, 2022 at 1:50 p.m. to correct the name of the Campus Veterans Association, which was previously referred to as the Campus Veterans Alliance.

Over 20 organizations participated in SGA’s The Big Event on April 9, 2022. This is an annual event where student organizations participate in community service across Montevallo. Locations include city resident’s homes, local parks, local churches, and more.

The event began with a speech from SGA President Anakate Andrasko and SGA Director of Social Services Paige Stevens. UM History Professor Clark Hultquist attended as a guest speaker.

Members of the M.A.D.E program worked to clean at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. M.A.D.E split into two groups, one cleaning the church playground and the other cleaning various bricks.

The Alabamian and UM Fraternity ATO helped city residents Robert and Lois Doyle rid their yard of pinecones and sticks.

At Shelby Emergency Assistance, Women’s Basketball and UM Fraternity FIJI worked together in yard work and gardening. Men’s Soccer worked to clean a playground next door at University Baptist Church.

FIJI also worked with UM Fraternity LXA at Montevallo Seed To Table, a local community garden.

UM Sorority Chi O and Campus Veterans Association both cleaned resident Audra Dailey’s backyard.

Falcons Connect and UM Sorority AKA helped clean the yard at Montevallo Presbyterian Church.

The Big Event finished later that day with a cookout outside of Farmer Hall.
